4) Is there something you would like to preserve about the community? Anything you would change?
5) Why should residents vote for you?
My name is Gary Veldink and I am running for a Trustee position in Georgetown Township.
I lived in the Township my whole life and am a 3rd generation resident. My grandsons are now the 5th generation of Veldink’s to live here.
I have had my construction business in Georgetown now for 40 years. I am involved in other companies as well. Pinetree Leasing, Pinetree Construction and Pinetree Developemrnt and have built homes, offices and commercial buildings in Georgetown Township along with several plats. I have sat on the board for Love In the Name of Christ and have served in the churches I have attended as an Elder and Deacon. I have been involved with Reformed Mission Services and Reformed Youth Services. Both organizations are geared to High school students for Mission projects and a yearly camp in different parts of the United States. I was a High School youth group leader for 10 years. I was a founder of Zion Christian School and served on its first Board.
I think being a business owner and looking over funds for several non profits over the years has taught me how to spend money in a stewardly way. The Township should spend money as if they are spending their own. I have not seen that lately even after votes have been taken to the contrary.
We have a great community which is why so many want to live here. It’s not the things that bring them here it’s the people. Sure the big city has more to offer but it offers things we don’t want too. I think it’s time slow things down a little. And get back to the simple things
