State your name, position, and why you are running.
Simply put, I love Georgetown Township. It is a great community. We have friendly, safe neighborhoods; great schools; vibrant churches; a solid business core; beautiful parks and so much more. Since first being elected Supervisor, I have had the privilege of being a part of real progress and improvement in Georgetown. We have cut property taxes to the lowest rate of any city or township in our area, while at the same time operating without debt and building a reserve fund for future needs and unexpected events. We have also made significant improvements to our parks, library, senior center and overall community appearance. But there is more to do. Much of our infrastructure is more than 50 years old. We must wisely plan and invest for its maintenance, replacement, and our continued growth. We must continue to invest in our parks, in paths and in amenities that provide real value to the families within our community. Our Master Plan will be reviewed during this next term and it will require input with an eye toward the present and the future to manage growth and to avoid sprawl and over-density which would negatively impact our residents’ quality of life. I would like the privilege of being a voice in that process. In sum, I am running to help continue to address these and other challenges we face.
What expertise and strengths are you bringing to the board?
Georgetown has a Board of seven individuals. Each of us should bring something to the table that helps to contribute to overall board strength. In the Supervisor role, sitting in the center chair and leading the process, it is important to have strong people and leadership skills. I believe I possess those skills. I am an effective communicator, a good listener and a consensus builder. I also have a good sense of the pulse of the Township on the various issues that come before the Board.
Additionally, and relevant to Chamber members, I am a small business owner and have been for more than 25 years. I understand the realities of hiring, making payroll, and working with government policies and procedures. I want Georgetown to continually improve at being a user-friendly place to do business.
My 30+ years in practicing law has also honed strengths and skills which are applicable to the Supervisor position. As an attorney, I have faced many challenging situations which I have had to navigate on behalf of clients. This experience has taught me how to lead the Township in navigating its challenges and how to resolve conflict and avoid unnecessary and expensive lawsuits.
Why should residents vote for you?
I am a husband and a father of eight. Georgetown is where we have raised our children. We love this community. Our older children are now getting married and having children. I want this community to be a place where my children want to return and raise their families. Perhaps you want the same thing. I promise you that I will continue to work hard for you, whether you are raising your children here, running a business, or residing in one of our wonderful senior communities. I am not perfect, but I continue to strive to learn and improve in my role. If re-elected, rest assured that I will continue to listen to you and to seek the best interests of the community in all that I do. I would be humbled to receive your vote in the Republican primary on August 6.
