ELIGIBILITY: Our 6th Annual Scarecrow Contest is open exclusively to all downtown Sponsors and city entities until September 4. After said date open light poles will be offered to any area business.

IDEAS: Traditional or Other – Fairytale, Humorous, Fantasy, Celebrity, Business, etc. Our goal is fun & classy, so please avoid gruesome, bloody, or otherwise horrific entries.

PRIZE: The coveted travelling trophy (currently residing at The Paw Place) with your business name and the year inscribed. Bragging rights for an entire year!

ENTRY FEE: FREE! To Sponsors. $10.00 to any non-sponsor businesses.

Scarecrow Set-up DATE – Wednesday, October 2 – Friday, October 4. If electrical needed, please set up by Thursday afternoon. Scarecrow Removal DATE – Thursday, October 17 – Saturday, October 19. All entries will be on display for two weeks. Please ensure that all components of your creation can remain on display outside for the duration of time.

SIZE: Minimum height is 4 feet. Maximum – Scarecrow and all props must fit on the sidewalk with room to walk around.

CONSTRUCTION: Scarecrows must be durable and able to stand up to sun, wind, and rain. All decorations must be firmly attached. The city will provide a hay bale & cornstalk at each lamppost for display. Stuffing straw must be secured by each entrant. Feel free to bring additional props. Scarecrows and props must fit on the sidewalk. If you use pumpkins, etc. they must be whole, not carved, to ensure they last through the contest. You are free to visit your scarecrow to keep it in good condition; the city reserves the right to remove any entries that do not maintain their display. Electricity is available at the top of each light pole. Contestants provide their own extension cords if needed. The city will create a name plaque, clearly displaying the business behind each creation.

JUDGING: Visitors to the Fall Fest (Saturday, October 5 from 11:00 – 4:00 pm) will vote on their favorite Scarecrow. All guests, regardless of age, will receive one ballot. Do encourage friends and family to come out and vote for your Crow. Sorry, no absentee ballots.

TROPHY PRESENTATION: The 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place Scarecrows will be announced at 3:30 pm on Saturday, October 5 in the Franklin Street Corridor. Businesses do not need to be present to win, but we would love to see you at the event.

A ribbon will be placed on the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd place entries
