Ground Breaking for former Vacuum Cleaner Site – “Clock Tower Properties”
The City of Grandville’s Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and the Grandville Jenison Chamber announce the ground breaking ceremony of the new “Clock Tower Properties” located on the corner of Wilson and Chicago Drive for Friday, March 9 at 12:45 pm.
The project is the brainchild of Heath Jurgens, fourth generation of Jurgens & Holtvluwer and Derek Sjaarda, third generation of Vacuum Cleaner Centers.

Clock tower Properties is a mixed use 3000 sq ft retail on the lower level. The upper will be 3 unique apartments for downtown living. The corner spot has been occupied by a variety of businesses including restaurants, hotels, the last hotel being the Medamer Hotel. The last brick and mortar store located at this location was the Vacuum Cleaner Center, when in 2006 they had to demolish and relocate their business due to a storm causing the roof to cave in.
While both business owners have always appreciated being in Downtown Grandville, they are even more grateful since the completion of the Downtown Streetscape. “The project completed in late 2012 has supported the DDA’s key objectives of improving walkability and downtown parking, revitalizing the core of our downtown, and making downtown more of a destination. Stated Matthew Butts, Assistant City Manager. Hiring an events planner, Theresa Meendering has brought thousands to downtown Grandville for a wide variety of events.”
Heath Jurgens has stated that they have one confirmed tenant for their unique apartments and is working with what would be a new first of its kind business for Grandville. The new possible tenants are thrilled at the possibility to be in a thriving downtown where they can support fellow businesses and participate in the many events. They plan on attending the Ground Breaking with a Banner “Coming Soon”…
Multiple generations will also be attending the ceremony.
The public is welcome to attend. Members of the Chamber and DDA will meet at the Chamber Office, 2939 Wilson, Suite 106 at 12 noon for a light lunch… Press welcome to attend.
