Jana C. Gryzan, daughter of Julie Durbin Gryzan: and Patrick Gryzan & Janina Valenza and sister to Emily and Joe is the recipient of the Grandville Jenison Chamber’s “Future Leader in the Making” (13-17). Nominated by Grandville School Teacher, John Schwalm, Jana has all the attributes of a Future Leader.   Below is the nomination submitted.


It is pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Jana Gryzan. Jana is an exceptional individual. She is well organized, creative and dependable. Jana is an excellent student, gives to our community and still finds time to work at Arnie’s Bakery on 52nd Street. She has excellent human relationship skills and is respected by her peers. She is mature and enjoys working with others. Jana finds business interesting and exciting. She is an outstanding employee at Arnie’s because of her strong work ethic and friendly disposition.

Jana looks for opportunities to help others. She has participated in mission trips to Marvell, Arkansas and Logan, West Virginia. Jana cleaned, repaired, scraped paint off a library, and volunteered at a daycare center. This summer she is headed to Cheyenne River, South Dakota to work at an Indian reservation.

Jana is a leader in our “Be Nice” program at Grandville High School. She promotes positive behavior and attitudes at our school. She is also a member of our DECA business club and won 1st place at district competition and competed in Detroit last month with 4,500 outstanding business students in marketing.  Jana plans on attending Eastern Michigan University and majoring in finance. Somehow, she has found time to serve as student council representative.

Jana volunteers at the Wyoming VA Health Center and walks veterans to their appointments. She prepares homemade food for the residents and passes out her creations as a way to start conversations with residents. Jana worked at Aurora Pond Retirement home and formed a bond with many of the residents. She still visits and shares stories with her former responsibilities and patients.

Jana Gryzan will be very successful. She has a positive attitude and strong people skills. She is always smiling and outgoing. I am nominating Jana as a “Future Leader in the Making” not because of an outstanding events she has contributed to, but because of a life dedicated to helping everyone she meets learn and grow. She lives, “Service Above Self”. She is a role model for aspiring young people. Jana looks for opportunities to make a difference in our community and beyond.
